Jazz re:freshed Outernational returns to SXSW with an outstanding live showcase
With a queue all night round the block at the Velveeta Room in Austin, Jazz re:freshed Outernational hosted their 8th live music showcase at SXSW featuring UK Jazz acts Chelsea Carmichael, Richard Spaven, NeOne the Wonderer, Kyra, Ebi Soda and Sultan Stevenson.
“The night was electrifying, and as I experienced my first overseas Jazz re:freshed music showcase, I learned that people are really dedicated to jazz and jazz culture”, says British Underground’s Digital Production Manager Almass Badat. “About an hour before doors opened at 8PM, the line from the Velveeta Room started to build and did not let up. Inside, act after act brought their A-game, exploring all corners of jazz while audience members clapped, cheered and danced. Those that arrived well before 8PM were still grooving at 2AM, soaking in some of the best emerging artists from the UK jazz scene. From instrumentalists to vocalists, each musician showcased their identity through sound, displaying not only why jazz is loved around the world, but why Jazz re:freshed continue to make their mark in the international jazz calendar”.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, pioneering grassroots jazz organisation Jazz re:freshed has been at the forefront of the UK jazz scene for the last 20 years, elevating, amplifying and spotlighting the breadth of talented young artists from across the musical spectrum to reach new audiences.
