The Missing Thread: Somerset House

As we anticipate Somerset House’s forthcoming exhibition “CUTE”, we throwback to The Missing Thread, an exploration of the untold stories of Black British Fashion.

We particularly loved the integration of the installation in the space (see the monitor/speaker in the fireplace) and the sensory presentation of mixed media, from photographs, audio recordings and tailoring to set pieces and props, which all linked style, the common thread between Black art, culture, geography and history.

Featured on our cover image is JJ, a close friend of our digital production manager Almass. JJ is of Jamaican-Cuban origin, and was particularly touched by the entrance of the exhibition, a structure made of measuring tapes, as her grandmother’s tradition was to hang measuring tapes on each door of the house to ward off bad spirits.

With such a successful run, we’re sure The Missing Thread will be back in the future. In the meantime, we’ll see you at CUTE!
